The company that created the Chernobyl suits donates protective clothing

34 years after the Chernobyl accident and 2 years after the filming of the miniseries of the same name, which caused a real scandal, we again faced something that had never happened on Earth before.

In creating the miniseries, hardly anyone assumes that just 2 years later, the world will need some of what they use in production as accessories.

Javier Toledo is the CEO of one of the largest stage costume companies in the world. “They contacted us about production, they wanted to rent clothes. They also needed protective clothing and materials,” he says.

“We made about 600 costumes for Chernobyl. These are original protective garments that can be safely worn in situations like the one we have with the coronavirus right now,” said Toledo.

In general, Javier says, when it comes to productions, they always buy or rent more clothes than necessary. This is also the case for Chernobyl. “This production had a lot of unused clothing. We also made a lot of protective clothing and materials for other very large productions that I can’t mention,” he says.

So, when the situation with COVI-19 reaches Europe, from the first days it was clear that the most sought after on the market are security materials. And its scarcity is notable at the beginning of the pandemic.

“The main problem now is not whether they are expensive or cheap. The problem is that they are gone. In fact, they are slowly finding themselves. There is a little more than before, but there is still a great need for protective clothing,” said Javier Toledo .

That is why Javier and the company’s employees decide that they will donate what is needed. First, they donate any new safeguards left in the company’s warehouse after production of Chernobyl. “We have already donated around 3,500 protective clothing and supplies, and we continue to produce,” he says.
