CSKA goalkeeping coach Ivaylo Petrov-Pifa turns 47 today and gave an interview on Topic Sport.
Mr. Petrov, do you miss the thrill of being under the frame?

– You see where things are going – 60/40, 70/30, I don’t know what, you know who gets that money. And the teams, which are the emblem of Bulgaria: CSKA and Levski, do not accept anything. Even over the years, how much has been avoided by CSKA … Secondary factors, being behind him, how he will not be a champion. For me, that’s where the difference comes from over the years, not so much from the players, but from circumstances other than football.
How do you feel as a goalkeeper coach at CSKA?
I am very happy. Since I finished the game, I have not been happier. I have practiced it all my life. Everyone I worked as a coach at CSKA was a good character, both as an athlete and as a person. They are adopted and absorbed very quickly. Cherniauskas and Busato tell me that I teach them things they have never known before. How not to be happy?
It has been said that there will be a reduction in wages at CSKA …
– This is the most human, the most normal. You go for men, you say “OK, I agree” and that’s it. Now I remembered that in my last year at CSKA I played in about 20-30 percent of games. In the middle of the season I felt uncomfortable and asked for a meeting with the management, then Titan was the owners. I told them I didn’t play regularly and that I wanted my pay cut.
Call them and ask them if they were. However, they said: “We are happy with you, train hard, you are not light, you are not angry. Due to your character, we will not reduce anything.” So cutting your salary is just a human act.
Why did Bussato become a starter?
“Ah, you have to ask him that.” Sports in a fairly high percentage are lucky. The bus was in the right place at the right time. He seized his opportunity and did not let it pass. However, he also greeted Cherniauskas, who never gave up for a moment, but continued to train as much as possible. Both, as well as young Shalamanov, are fully committed to the activities. Since I was at CSKA, there have been no medals. I say this to all the new team goalkeepers: I don’t want to be envious of the title guard backup. Don’t forget that the wheel turns.

Are they very different in character from Bussato and Cherniauskas?
“The difference is very small. Cherniauskas has an idea of the most modest child. But overall, they are both great characters and men. It is normal for us to fight, but I like it because I see that they care and they burn in their profession. I want to see characters, not fluffy guys. The truth is born in disputes. And I’m glad that you both see your mistakes often, but you are ready to argue that you were not wrong. I’ll tell you how we do it, assuming we played a game on Sunday, and then on Wednesday I give Bussato and Cherniauskas a comment on the starter’s performance.
Say where you were wrong, where you made the right decision. Sometimes there are disputes: Cerniauskas says that Bussato was wrong, but Gustavo says no. Finally, I give the final opinion of who is right. And I’m glad that you both accept these things and always want to learn. I still strive to constantly discover and introduce new ideas and elements. The world does not end today. Tomorrow something new will come out and you should be ready to learn it.

“Man is free and can speak whatever he wants. He went to Spain and started talking. I cannot understand those people. I’ve seen all kinds of cases: you earn money and you give interviews. However, when you lose, you wonder how to get on the flight first. Why didn’t Albentosa speak to them here? You keep quiet when it’s convenient, but when you’re in the mood, you start talking boils. – Bulgarian goalkeepers are a sick subject for me. We took CSKA, Levski, Slavia, Beroe and Ludogorets before with Renan. All leading teams have foreign goalkeepers. The bad thing is that they don’t pay attention here. I am sure there are many talents in small towns and villages, but no one will go to see them. Bulgarian goalkeepers abdicate us a bit and we are more focused on our field players. Basically whoever you put on the national team, you won’t go wrong. The difference is not great.
