The prosecutor’s office filed an indictment in the Sofia City Court against Christian Nikolov, 22, charged with the death of journalist Milen Tsvetkov.
This happened almost eight months after the severe Easter accident, in which the young man crashed a jeep into Tsvetkov’s car, which stopped at a red light.
Due to the high speed, the lack of any attempted stop and the various drugs found in his blood, Nikolov was accused of deliberately provoking the incident that led to the journalist’s death. The law provides for the punishment for this crime. imprisonment of 15 to 20 years or life imprisonment.
The former German high school graduate in Sofia has been in custody since April 19, from where the court refused to release him. In one of the last hearings of the case, he joined by video link and said:
“I want to express my deepest condolences to Mr. Tsvetkov’s family. I have been in custody for seven months and this media attack is crushing my psyche. I am fully cooperating with the investigation, so it will be in the future. I’ll hide, I’ll run, to harass the case I know what awaits me and I plan to take full responsibility.“.
The press center of the Prosecutor’s Office announced today that as a result of the investigation it was established that around 6 pm on April 19, 2020, on Henrik Ibsen Street, before the crossing with Cherni Vrah Blvd., during the management of ” Audi Q7 “, Nikolov violated the rules of the road, as a result of which he caused a traffic accident and deliberately caused the death of another participant in traffic – the driver of Tsvetkov’s” Subaru Forrester “stopped on the road.
The case is particularly serious: the author drove a vehicle after consuming three different types of drugs: amphetamine, cocaine, tetrahydrocannabinol (cannabis – BR), with a speed that significantly exceeds the permitted speed, approximately 99 km / h. When approaching the intersection with a prohibitive red light signal for his direction of movement, the defendant took no action to slow down or stop. At the same time, on the highway at the intersection there were many other road users, drivers and pedestrians, the prosecutor’s office said.
The court is about to schedule a preliminary hearing on the case, at which it will begin.
Nikolov’s mother – Desislava Pesheva is also accused. As the manager of the Vinprom – Karnobat company, she is the owner of the Audi Q7 car with which Tsvetkov died. Prosecutors charged her with allowing the tragic accident to occur, allowing her son to drive the company car after using drugs.
Christian’s former classmates say he took drugs at school, was brutal, and thought he was immortal.
