Four tigers and three lions from a zoo in the Bronx, New York, contracted a coronavirus. This was reported by the installation.

Zoo management recalled that a female Malaysian tiger named Nadya received a similar diagnosis in mid-April.

“We can confirm that the test results, taken from three other cough tigers and three African lions, are positive,” the statement said.

The same diagnosis was confirmed in another tiger, but his disease had no symptoms.

To take fecal samples for analysis, it was not necessary to anesthetize the animals. “All eight cats feel good. They behave normally, eat well, and cough less,” the statement said. Nadia was the first case of a tiger infected with the novel Covid-19 coronavirus in humans.

The Bronx Zoo was opened in 1899. It covers an area of 107 hectares and is home to approximately 4,000 animals of more than 600 different species and subspecies. The zoo itself has been closed since March 16 due to the coronavirus pandemic and is touring exclusively online.
