A pregnant woman visited 4 hospitals in 3 large cities before accepting her for delivery. The 500-kilometer route between Yambol, Stara Zagora and Bourgas ends in the coastal city.

The story begins in Yambol. After the young woman had contractions, they went to the hospital in her city. They learn that the maternity ward is closed due to many sick doctors. The woman’s gynecologist advised her to go to Stara Zagora. They go to the university hospital.

“They go there, a doctor comes out and says that she can give birth in two days, she can’t accept it because they worked with patients from Stara Zagora and surroundings,” says mother-in-law Svetla Ovcharova.

A baby was born with antibodies against COVID-19

The woman in labor is taken to a second hospital in Stara Zagora: Trakia.

“There, the guards did not call any doctor on duty. He said:” First you have to make an appointment with a doctor who will form a team and only then, “explains the mother-in-law.
Then the family goes to the University Hospital of Burgas, where they are admitted.
“The doctor examined her, she had a 6 cm opening. They immediately do a COVID test, which is negative in 10 minutes, ”explained Svetla Ovcharova.

Birth occurs naturally. An investigation was launched at the Stara Zagora University Hospital into the reason why the woman was not hospitalized.

“It was sent for reasons unknown to us. As a procedure is currently being carried out to analyze the situation, her medical condition, if there were urgent indications for hospitalization, if there were indications that the woman should be returned to await delivery,” explained the Prof. Dr. Georgi Minkov.

The other hospital in Stara Zagora, Trakia, expressed regret over the case. The duty officer did not follow the rules for emergency admission and did not call a doctor. The hospital management announced that the employee had been fired.

The relatives will not sue, but they say it is good that the hospitals have internal coordination.
