Roman Logvinenko was arrested in January 2016.
The Sofia Court of Appeals reduced the sentence of Ukrainian Roman Logvinenko, accused of the grenade attack against former SANS adviser Alexei Petrov, by five years.
Therefore, the punishment of the foreigner is no longer 15, but 10 years in prison. The decision is from a 3-member panel chaired by Plamen Datsov and members Svetla Bukova and Velichka Tsanova, the Sofia Court of Appeals announced. It is not final and can be challenged before the Supreme Court of Cassation.
Logvinenko was found guilty as an accessory in Petrov’s attempted grenade launcher murder, which was committed on October 29, 2015 in the capital’s Krastova Gora district.
Since May 17, 2019, he was acquitted for the first time, the Sofia City Court, on the accusation that he was the instigator and organizer of the assassination attempt against the old beret.
According to the prosecution, Logvinenko bought the cars with which the attack was organized and provided the weapon. He also gave advice to his accomplices. However, the court did not find sufficient evidence for this.
The direct perpetrators of the attack, two Ukrainians, have not been found. No other aides of his were found, who observed and monitored Petrov’s house.
According to the SAS, Logvinenko’s involvement in the murder is much less than that of other Ukrainians. The reasons for changing the sentence say: “Despite the severity of the attack, Logvinenko’s contribution is relatively less than that of the other accomplices … The 15-year period of isolation of the accused from society is inflated and unfair” .
Expect details.
