All employees of educational institutions who have undergone treatment after COVID-19 infection will be entitled to an additional 10 days of paid annual leave. The goal is to restore them more efficiently. This provides for an annex to the Collective Bargaining Agreement for the preschool and school education system, which was signed yesterday by the Minister of Education Krassimir Valchev, the leader of the Union of Bulgarian Teachers Yanka Takeva, Yulian Petrov, president of the Union of Education in Podkrepa . Diyan Stamatov – President of the Union of Employers in the public education system in Bulgaria and Asen Alexandrov, leader of the Association of Directors of Secondary Education in the Republic of Bulgaria.

The proposal to grant additional licenses to teachers infected with the corona virus was made by the Bulgarian Teachers’ Union. It also supports its sick members with financial assistance.

The annex provides for another minimum wage of BGN 1,300 for a teacher and a higher educator, and for a principal and a main educator the starting salary is BGN 1,350. Higher thresholds have also been agreed for specialists with management functions. The new basic minimum wages come into force with the pertinent decision of the Council of Ministers to increase the standards for educational activities delegated by the state as of 2021.

When conducting distance learning in an electronic environment, teachers are paid BGN 30 per month to offset the cost of consumables. For additional inquiries of students absent for more than 10 days due to illness, BGN 15 per hour is provided.

The CLA also contains a text that obliges the Ministry and the social partners to guarantee work in an electronic environment by providing devices. Legislative changes are planned to introduce sanctions for parents of children and students who have abused the digital devices provided to them. They will be excluded from social benefits. Some time ago, Minister Valchev warned that there are cases in which parents sell the devices given to their children.
