BTS’s ‘Dynamite’ Video Destroys YouTube Premiere Record

BTS has just released their new single, “Dynamite”, from waiting for one of the most anticipated songs of 2020. How very expected, you ask? Now, the song’s dazzling music video just shattered the record for the biggest premiere in YouTube history, leaving the runner-up in the dust.

The “Dynamite” video came out after a, aheme, explosive launch, with millions of people voting to watch it go live at midnight EST. The video premiere aired at least 3 million viewers at a time, according to YouTube’s live counter, and a refresh immediately after the premiere left the show at just 4 million. Exact figures are not yet available, but a live view counting between 3 and 4 million gives BTS easily the biggest YouTube premiere ever, potentially doubling the previous record holder.

Prior to the release of “Dynamite”, the Korean pop girl group Blackpink held the record for the biggest premiere in YouTube history. The quartet grabbed the crown less than two months ago with its trap-inflated new single “How You Like That”, which drew 1.65 million viewers at a time. At the time, Blackpink was breaking a record set by BTS in February, when the “On” music video premiered with 1.54 million viewers at a time.

“How You Like That” also set the record for the biggest 24-hour YouTube debut for a music video with 86.3 million first-day views, re-using BTS, which previously set the record with the Halsey support “Boy with Luv “(74.6 million). BTS fans are hoping they can snap back the 24-hour debut record, and while it’s too early to make concrete predictions, they are an excellent start. At the time of this writing, “Dynamite” has been viewed approximately 14.5 million times in the first 40 minutes, adding another million views every few minutes.

These early metrics also fine well for BTS’s prospects on the Billboard Hot 100 new week. Fans have decided to help the group score the first No. 1 hit, mobilizing to buy and stream “Dynamite” en masse. These efforts, coupled with a massive nationwide radio push, give BTS a strong chance to earn its first Hot 100 chart topper. If the record-breaking premiere of “Dynamite” serves as any indication, the infected new single from BTS will make a lot of history next week.
