Bryson DeChambeau’s ‘twilight zone’ day results in big drives, score above par

DUBLIN, Ohio – A round that Bryson DeChambeau called a “Twilight Zone” included two runs of over 400 yards, a steady diet of short iron approach shots, and ultimately not enough distance control on his way to his First over-par card on The PGA Tour since early February.

DeChambeau continued to impress from the tee with an average of 326 yards on all holes (which ranked first in the morning wave) and added to his legend with a tee shot at No. 1 of 423 yards, is not DeChambeau seemed too impressed with the effort

Bryson DeChambeau’s first tee shot of the day was 353 yards. That was nothing compared to what he did after making the turn.

“I hit him a little high in the face. Definitely came out with less than 2,000 [rpm] spin, I think. Only 191 [mph] I saw the speed of the ball, and I got a big boost and got a good kick, ”said DeChambeau, whose 1-out-of-73 left him tied for 59th when the afternoon wave started.

Still, DeChambeau’s new power remains the hottest topic in the game right now and the 26-year-old even admitted that he surprises himself sometimes.

“Sometimes I can’t believe it,” he said. “There were years when I hit 5 iron on [No. 1 where he was left with a 46-yard approach]. It is wild. It is a blessing that he has been able to solve some things with the driver. I have much more to work on with wedge and iron sets. “

DeChambeau left the course standing first in the tournament in strokes won: off the tee, but out of the top 100 in both strokes won: focus and strokes won: around the green.
