Bryson DeChambeau misses cut after quintuple-bogey 10

Bryson DeChambeau has been on the verge of tears, winning the Rocket Mortgage Classic earlier this month and posting four consecutive top-10 results since the PGA Tour returned to action in June. But the hot streak ended on Friday at the Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio.

The 26-year-old entered the 15th par hole in 1 par for the tournament, but exited the green at par 6 after posting a quintuple-bogey 10. That was good for the worst single hole score of his career on the PGA Tour. .

So how did it happen? Well here is a look at the video.

DeChambeau’s tee shot at the 558-yard par 5 found the water to the left of the fairway. After dropping, he had 289 yards on the green and chose to hit a three-pointer in the rough, but his decision was not worth it as his shot went out of bounds to the right into a backyard. Then he played a provisional from the same place and got the same result.

His provisional follow-up remained in play, settling down the road shortly before a stream with 44 yards remaining on the green. But before playing his eighth shot, DeChambeau found the ball from his third shot, which had stopped under a fence that lined the field. DeChambeau consulted with a rules officer about playing the shot, insisting that the ball was within bounds, but after being informed otherwise, he demanded a second rules officer.

He was heard on the broadcast saying, “They are giving me a crappy decision as usual.”

The second rules official also considered the ball to be out of bounds, so DeChambeau was forced to play his eighth shot. He threw it to the green from there and threw two 30-foot shots to get a quintuple-bogey 10.

DeChambeau closed the day with two pairs and a bird, but missed the cut with two shots.
