FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – As coronavirus cases continue to rise, Broward is taking new steps to enforce CPVID-19 restrictions.
The county is cracking down on companies that don’t follow the rules when it comes to capacity, facial coatings, and social distancing.
On Friday, the Community Improvement and Compliance Division conducted dozens of inspections and closed many popular locations throughout Las Olas. The YOLO restaurant and bar was closed and fined $ 250 for not enforcing social distancing orders and covering his face.
Fort Lauderdale last week delivered some severe penalties to demonstrate that they are serious about applying new normal protocols.
Five locations closed Friday, but the one that felt the biggest hit in his pocket was Hunter’s Beach Bar, which was fined $ 15,000.
Most locations are only closed for 24 hours so they can comply with the rules.
Companies not only have to worry about code compliance inspections, but also residents who can report violators.
There is a board on the county website that shows businesses that residents have complained about. Includes maps that point to violators.
Residents are encouraged to participate in the compliance process by reporting violations to MyBroward.Broward.org. Select “Service Request”, enter the location of the violation and select “COVID-19 Business Claims” under “Problem Type”. They can also call the Broward County Call Center at 311 or 954-831-4000. Both types of reports can be made anonymously.
Currently, the county has seen 37 citations issued, 472 warnings issued, and nearly 500 pending inspections.
