Broward Health Vaccines High-Risk People Over 18 – NBC 6 South Florida



Broward Health announced Friday that it has begun prescribing the COVID-19 vaccine for at-risk individuals 18 and older.

By Friday afternoon, all appointments had been filled, according to a Broward Health spokesman. It is unclear exactly when another group of health care system appointments will open, but it will likely be next week.

Patients 18 and over who meet one of the following high-risk groups are eligible to be vaccinated by appointment only:

  • Asthma (moderate to severe)
  • Cancer
  • Cerebrovascular disease
  • Chronic kidney disease
  • COPD
  • Cystic fibrosis
  • Down syndrome
  • Heart conditions such as (heart failure, coronary artery disease or cardiomyopathy)
  • Hypertension or high blood pressure
  • Immune status due to blood or bone marrow transplantation, immune deficiency, HIV, use of corticosteroids or weak drugs or solid organ transplantation
  • Liver disease
  • Neurologic conditions such as dementia
  • Overweight or obese (body mass index over 25)
  • Pregnancy
  • Pulmonary fibrosis
  • Sickle cell disease
  • Smoking
  • Thalassemia
  • Type 1 diabetes mellitus
  • Type 2 diabetes mellitus

Patients are asked to fill out a vaccination consent form, which has been downloaded from the Broward Health website by noon on Friday.
