Brona Taylor case: Kentucky AG Daniel Cameron files motion to keep grand jury files confidential

A judge granted Cameron until Wednesday to respond to a motion filed by an unresponsive grand jury in Breno’s Taylor case last week, seeking the release of the grand jury’s recordings, transcripts and reports pertaining to the case.

The motion was called to “declare binding” that the grand jury has the right to disclose information, especially to avoid the fear that Cameron would try to use the court’s contempt power in a public disclosure case.

Cameron led the investigation and presented the case before a grand jury.

A grand jury found first-degree Walton endangered Detective Brett Hankinson of the Louisville Metro Police Department on charges of shooting in a neighboring apartment apartment from Taylor’s home.

He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Taylor, 26, was shot dead by police at her home during a boat raid in March. The attorney general said the two officers who fired at Taylor, Sergeant. Jonathan Mattingley and Dat. Miles Cosgrove was justified in his use of force because Taylor’s boyfriend fired at him before hitting Mattingley.
Last week, an attorney representing a grand jury suggested that the case presented to the Cameron panel could be misrepresented to the public.

Cameron said grand juries work secretly to protect those involved.

“This declaration will change the legitimacy of legal proceedings and make it difficult for government prosecutors and the public to believe in the confidentiality of the grand jury proceedings,” he said.

Verbal arguments in the case are set for Thursday.

With regard to Cameron’s motion, he says it is a similar case involving a grand jury police-involved in the 2014 shooting death of Michael Brown in Missouri.

The anonymous grand jury “sought to talk about the experience of serving on the grand jury, to present evidence and thus to contribute to the public dialogue on race relations”, but was prohibited from doing so by state law as required. Confidentiality about grand jury discussions.

Cameron said the state’s grand jury had rejected a state-of-the-art jury’s request to completely invalidate secrecy laws. The case is going through federal court.

Cameron fires back at Ben Crump

Cameron on Tuesday rejected a request for a special prosecutor to investigate Taylor’s death and reprimanded his critics in an interview with “Fox and Friends” on Tuesday morning.

Most of his vehicle was directed at Ben Krump, a civil rights attorney who represents Taylor’s family.

“This is a Ben Crump model,” Cameron said.

“He goes to a city, makes a story, makes cherries to establish facts, to prove that he also creates chaos in the community, misrepresents facts, and then he leaves with his money, and then The community is told to pick up the pieces, “Cameron said. “It is terribly insulting to him to carry out such stories, such lies.”

Cameron, speaking at the Republican National Convention, also raised the issue of rapper star Megan The Stalin’s performance on “Saturday Night Live.”
During the show, he played an audio Dio clip of activist Temica Mallory, saying, “Daniel Cameron is no different than the salesout negroes who sold our people into slavery.”
Megan The Stallion has given Karotki AG Daniel Cameron his 'SNL.' The borough criticized Taylor's decision in the case for its influence.

“It’s disgusting that someone would enter on national television and make contradictory remarks about me because I’m just trying to do my job,” Cameron said, adding that the comments were incorrectly answered by the rapper.

He said such comments are “something I had to feel, because I am a black Republican, because I stand up for truth and justice against giving to the mob mentality.”

Taylor’s family lawyer Lonita Baker criticized Cameron’s remarks in a statement to CNN.

“It’s unfortunate that Daniel Cameron is referred to as a ‘crunch playbook’ to seek justice for victims of police brutality. Baker said he can’t respond to the real criticism that he rejected the grand jury process, but so far Megan takes time to respond to Stallion’s Saturday Night Live performance.

“I was just fighting for justice for Brona Taylor by demanding a prototype through a lawyer who wanted to defend the political agenda instead. Daniel Cameron’s playbook is a real issue that needs to be discussed.”
