As Dave Meltzer revealed in the latest Wrestling Observer newsletter, Brock Lesnar is not scheduled to appear on SummerSlam.
The rumor that has been circulating for a long time hinted that Brock Lesnar’s return to WWE is slated for the biggest show of the summer; however, that is not the case.
Dave Meltzer revealed that one of the reasons Brock Lesnar put Drew McIntyre so strongly at WrestleMania 36 was because the Incarnate Beast had no plans to return anytime soon.
It was also noted that Paul Heyman has not appeared on WWE TV since he was removed as CEO of Monday Night RAW. Meltzer concluded by stating that most signs point to Drew McIntyre defending the WWE Championship against Randy Orton at SummerSlam.
Brock Lesnar’s status and WWE’s plans for SummerSlam
SummerSlam was originally slated to take place at the TD Garden in Boston on August 23, but the show has now moved to the Performance Center.
Tom Colohue noted on the Dropkick DiSKussions podcast that WWE management is not a fan of Brock Lesnar performing in front of an empty arena as he is not suited to his larger than life personality.
Brock Lesnar could have made a comeback if WWE followed through on his plans to have SummerSlam with some fans in Boston. Now that that doesn’t happen due to the COVID-19 pandemic, WWE is apparently rewriting all the important plans they had for the program.
Edge vs. Reportedly Randy Orton III was scheduled for SummerSlam before the R-rated Superstar was injured. Orton will face Big Show in the next episode of RAW in an unauthorized game.
A WWE title fight between Orton and McIntyre for SummerSlam seems doable, as Legend Killer is the biggest heel in WWE right now and McIntyre has been pushed as the best baby face.
The Scottish psycho is expected to retain the title against Dolph Ziggler at SummerSlam and WWE could start building for Orton vs. McIntyre.
As for Brock Lesnar, don’t expect to see Beast Incarnate on WWE TV until fans return.
