LOS ANGELES – Estate star Britney Spears’ bid to remove her father, James Spears, from her property conservatism has received a temporary tweak after a Los Angeles court rejected her application.
James Spears has been his co-defender since 2008, when Guy suffered a major public breakdown. He became the sole defender in 2019 after attorneys Andrew and Wal Lett resigned as co-defendants.
At Tuesday’s hearing, Los Angeles Superior Judicial Court Judge Brenda Penny refused to suspend James Spears from his post, although she did not rule out future requests to remove him or suspend him.
“My client has informed me that she is afraid of her father,” Britney Spears’ attorney Samuel de Ingam III told the judge. “He won’t perform again if his father takes charge of his career.”
Meanwhile, the financial company Bessemer Trust has been appointed as co-conservator.
James Spears ‘attorney, Vivian Thoreau, argued that Britney Spears’ total assets were over 60 million due to her client’s servitude.
The move comes amid the #FreeBritney campaign, which claims the singer is in control against his will by James. In recent months, recent developments have allowed Brittany to expand her legal team.
She took on the role in 2007 following Britney’s very public mental breakdown. Most recently, acting defender Jodi Montgomery stepped in to help Spears. James has since criticized the #Fribreet movement, comparing his supporters to conspiracy theorists.
The singer has reportedly been removed from the role earlier this year, but his patron was then extended to February 2021.
In September, the singer’s father also withdrew his attempt to release estate manager Rewandrew Vallett, who Spears said was “uniquely unsupported” during his tenure before working for him.
Vallette worked in co-conservation capacity from 2008 to 2019, but Britney said he had “difficult budget choices moving forward” and could not afford his services.
Vallette then claimed that the star could save his life.
