Mothers of the bride can sometimes be a handful, but this mother took it to a whole new level.
A bride recently posted online about how her mother gave a cruel speech at her wedding last year, which led the groomsmen to ask her mother to leave the reception.
In the post, on Reddit’s “Am I the A – hole” forum, the bride, a user throwout momthrowaway, stated that she did not feel really comfortable allowing her mother to speak at her wedding because of her “stressful relationship.”

“I finally let her hope that she would deliver exactly the same whisper about having a son she did at my sister’s wedding,” the bride wrote. “Of course, my sister only told me after the events of this post that she approved that speech in advance.”
According to the Reddit post, the mother insulted the bride’s appearance, her “crappy apartment” and her “gross medical problems.”

“Every time they paused to let a joke land, there was silence,” the bride wrote. “My husband and my wife stood up to me, frozen, waiting for my queue (sic) about how I would react. They kept sitting until their bit about how I was damaged, referring to a time when I was 19 years old. I had a bad date and the man has been following me for over a year. It seriously affected my mental health and I dropped out of college. It is painful to think about or talk about. ”

At that point, one of the groomsmen took the mic away from the mother and the groom took the bride to the terrace for drinks, while the rest of the wedding asked the band to play.
Eventually, the bride returned to the reception and had a good time, although she said she did not see her mother once.

“The other day I found out that the groomsmen had not only stopped their speech, they were making it go away,” the bride said. “They did not tell me because I would be worried about the fallout to enjoy the party and I had already stated that I would avoid them all night.”

However, the drama has apparently continued for the bride, who said she has not yet heard the end of it.
“My mother says I humiliated her,” said the bride. “My family says I should have prepared myself simply because I ‘know how she is.’ They say I was wrong to deprive a mother of her daughter’s wedding. At first I was sure that her departure was justified. Now, I feel like I should have anticipated the onslaught and warned the wedding party early to grin and bear. ”
“It caused drama that could have been avoided if I had just done my mother her thing,” the bride added. ‘I could just stop the bag, but let her stay. On the other hand, if my husband’s father had delivered a similar speech, I would have pulled him out myself. ”
