Brian Snitker of Braves pleads for ‘recapture substitutes’ after team loss on bang-bang game

Brian Braves manager Brian Snitker expressed his frustration over Major League Baseball’s rule and prevented runners from running through catchers to disrupt plays on the plate.

Snitker made his remarks after the Braves lost Sunday night to the Philadelphia Phillies. The game ended after Dansby Swanson was tagged on the plate, and not received by Andrew Knapp.

“[Knapp] sat there pretty well, but they don’t call that anymore, “said Snitker, as MLB.com remarked. “They need to take that off the book and just start blowing up receivers again.”

Snitker admitted that he thought Knapp was sitting in front of the plate before he had the ball.

‘He did not pick up the ball and removed the plate. He waited for the plate as the rule says. The ball did not take him there. He was already there, ‘he said.

Knapp said if he was in front of the plate before the ball came to him, it was because of the throw.

“Luckily that throw took me in the line, so I could take it with me in the tag,” Knapp said. ‘I just knew that whether I had the ball or not, I did not really want to leave it on the plate. It was a kind of do-it-yourself play, and I ended up with it. ‘
