When one has a paradigm shift, it means that a person has a philosophical shift in thinking. It is defined as a fundamental shift in focus to whatever that person is working on and can open up other aspects of that person’s life.
For the Philadelphia 76ers All-Star, Ben Simmons, this definition could be used in many ways for his basketball career. Maybe it means he’ll be more aggressive and hit the foul line, or maybe it means he could be shooting more jumpers, which would get a lot of people excited.
For coach Brett Brown, he still thinks the Simmons’ jump shot topic is a bit overrated, but he does notice a difference in his All-Star point.
“I think this area is quite possibly one of the most overrated topics I’ve ever been a part of in training,” Brown began. “Ben Simmons will play basketball and the court will tell him what to do or not to do. You can say ‘well, I don’t agree with your coach Brown’ or you can say ‘fair enough’. I feel that their mentality is to voluntarily find space and three, that has been a paradigm shift. ”
The lack of a 3-point shot remains the only real criticism of the Simmons game. He has only made two in his career and is an obvious weakness in a shooting-based league. The team has noticed more shots from him during this training camp period in Orlando and that leads Brown to believe there will be something new for him in the games.
“That has been a change of attitude, an internal decision, because I have seen a cocky player and playing and when the game says to shoot because nobody is with you, he does not blink and his teammates love him,” added Brown. “As for going deeper than that, like numbering it and sitting it down if it doesn’t shoot, I’m not doing that. I am proud of how he personally has managed what I believe is going to be a paradigm shift and we will finally see a transformation as we begin to play basketball games. “
When the Sixers take on the Memphis Grizzlies in a scrimmage game on Friday, that will give Simmons his first chance to showcase this new paradigm shift Brown is talking about. The announcement in Orlando is scheduled for 3:30 pm EST.
