Vice President Kamala Harris on Wednesday urged Congress to pass gun safety laws in the wake of two recent mass shootings in the country.

Harris told CBS this morning that President Biden was not refusing to take executive action on guns, but said: “If we really want something that is sustainable, we need to pass legislation.”

“It’s time for Congress to deal with the wrong choices. This is not about getting rid of the Second Amendment. It’s about simply saying we need fair gun safety legislation, ”Harris said.

The vice president said: “I am not ready to give up what I have to do to attract the hearts and minds of the members of the United States Senate. I have served in that body and I believe it is possible, possible that people will agree that this slaughter must stop. “

Harris said he believes 26 people, including 20 children, were killed in the shooting at Sandy Hook, prompting Congress to take action.

“How, when 20-6 and 7-year-olds were slaughtered, and they took no action, and they took no action,” Harris said.

Biden is facing increasing pressure to act on guns in the wake of recent mass shootings in the Bilden, Colorado and Atlanta areas.
