Boston Celtics legend Tommy Hanson has died at the age of 86

The cause of death was not known.

Hinsoh’s legacy will forever be tied to the Celtics, where he competed in all 17 of the franchise’s championships – from player to coach to color critic.

It was drafted by the Celtics in 1956, and won the NBA Rookie of the Year in the 1956-1957 season, helping the team to the finals. In the series decisive game 7, Hensohn scored 37 points and 23 rebounds to help the franchise win its first championship.

Hensohn retired in 1965 and retired from the No. 15 Celtics that year. He completed his career with 12,194 points and 5,749 rebounds.

“This is a catastrophic loss,” the Celtics owners said in a statement. “Tommy was the ultimate Celtic. For the past 18 years, our proprietary group has relied heavily on Tommy’s advice and insights and has presented Red erb Rabech, Bill Russell and hundreds of stories of how the Celtics became a dynasty. “

Russell tweeted: “We were friends and friends for life. There are so many true friends in life, today I lost one. RIP Honey.”

In 1969, Hensoh was appointed head coach of the Celtics and he served in this role until 1978. He won Coach of the Year in 1973, and under his leadership, the Celtics added two more championship banners in 1974 and 1976. He ended his coaching career with a record of 7૨42-663 of, trailing only Red Erb Rabech to win the most in franchise history.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said in a statement that the Celtics games would not be the same without Tommy, and would be greatly missed by those who share his enthusiasm in basketball. “We extend our deepest sympathies to Tommy’s family, his friends and the Celtics organization.”

Heinson became a color critic for Celtics television broadcasts in 1981, partnering with Mike Gorman to last for decades.

“About 2800 times I sat down with Tommy to broadcast the game,” Gorman wrote on Twitter. “Every time he was special. HOF player … HOF coach … HOF partner. The Celtics Nation has lost its best voice. Rest in peace my friend. Being a mic in mic has been the privilege of my professional life. Tommy.”

Hanson was inducted into the Nassim Smith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1986 as a player and in 2015 as a coach. He is one of only four people, along with Charles Sherman, John Wooden and Lenny, to be inducted into the HFLF as a player and coach. Wilkens on that list.

“For all his accomplishments as a player, coach and broadcaster, it’s Tommy’s rich personality that defines man.”

“A loving father, grandfather and husband. A talented painter and lively golf partner. An unofficial guide to decades of Celtics coaches and players. Frequent creative critic of referees. The origin of the most” Celtic state “of all, The Tommy. Point. Love, the Boston Celtics, a passion he has shared with fans for over 64 years. “
