The Sooners add another great piece of the puzzle to their # LincUp21 class when 2021 defensive defender Latrell McCutchin publicly announces his verbal commitment to Oklahoma!
McCutchin (6’1 ″ 178) from Austin, Texas, announced his promise today, but if he’s been following it, it wasn’t unexpected.
Super K had been talking about this possibility since January when he went to Austin to see McCutchin at his school:
*** I also had a feeling that Latrell is really intrigued by Oklahoma. Coach Fenner said that despite the injury that sidelined Latrell in his third year, Nick Saban and company have continued to push to hold on to him.
*** I could be wrong here, but something tells me that Latrell could end up opening things up and if the Sooners play well I think they will have a real shot. ”
Then on February 21, Super K wrote the following about McCutchin:
Also, I’ll have more information on McCutchin. But, I’ll bother you with this … something could happen pretty fast on that front. Lincoln Riley has taken the lead in recruiting McCutchin. McCutchin said he communicates with Riley at least three times a week!
Following that note, McCutchin, who was still engaged in Alabama at the time, turned to Norman for a visit and on March 1 Lincoln Riley showed the ‘Eyes’ on Twitter, followed, a minute later, by Latrell tweeting that he withdrew from the Crimson Tide.
From then on, we understood that McCutchin was planning to make an announcement in favor of OU in the spring game, but as everyone knows, that was canceled due to the pandemic, so that plan was dropped.
While he was not publicly engaged to Oklahoma for the past few months, we never had the impression that things were drifting away and we kept him and OU in a very good place.
Today, Oklahoma received McCutchin’s public engagement. Latrell is an elite defender with the size and length that Alex Grinch and Roy Manning covet. He has great ball skills, uses his length to his advantage, and doesn’t shy away from contact.
When signature day arrives, if things remain intact, McCutchin will be perhaps the most complete advocate at Norman for the past decade as he leaves high school. Manning and Grinch removed an elite player from Austin, Texas, and removed him from the power of the SEC, Alabama, all in one motion.
It’s not bad at all.
