London, United Kingdom:
Prince Harry and his wife Meghan blamed “viper” courtiers for widening their gap with the royal family, according to excerpts from a new book published in The Times on Saturday.
The couple say they did not contribute to the new “Finding Freedom” biography, written by journalists Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, but the couple’s friends provided much of their content.
The book, published serially in The Times, will state that Harry felt “unprotected” by his family and exposed his separation from brother William and wife Kate.
Kate even refused to make eye contact with her sister-in-law on their final engagement in March, according to the new statement.
Harry apparently referred to high-ranking courtiers as “vipers,” who felt the couple’s global popularity was dwarfing the family and “needed to slow down,” according to excerpts.
The book, to be released on August 11, also suggests that Harry, 35, was the driving force behind the couple’s estrangement from the family, and Meghan told her husband that she “gave up my whole life for this family”.
The couple now live in Los Angeles and made headlines this week for taking legal action against one or more paparazzi who they accuse of taking pictures of their son Archie without permission.
Tabloid pressure has haunted Harry throughout his life, blaming them for the death of his mother, Princess Diana.
Meghan, 38, told a friend that the tabloid criticism was like “death by a thousand cuts,” according to the new book.
The authors sympathize with the couple and say the book will “correct the record” of the bitter split.
However, he acknowledges that Harry and Meghan’s decision to keep the family in the dark about their plans “created a lot of ill will.”
