Boeing is offering a second voluntary redundancy package to its employees as the coronavirus pandemic forced the aircraft manufacturer to deepen its cuts in the workforce beyond its original 10% plan in April.

‘While we have seen signs of recovery from the pandemic, our sector and our customers remain facing significant challenges. We have taken proactive steps to adapt to the reality of the markets and position our company for recovery, “a Boeing FOX Business spokesman said in a statement. While we continue to evaluate our workforce and in response to employee feedback, we will provide a second opportunity for voluntary redundancy (LLO) for employees to leave the company voluntarily with a package for pay and benefits. ”

Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun told employees Monday that the package will be offered in large part to employees in the commercial aircraft, services division and business operations division.

“I really wish the current demand of the market could support the size of our workforce,” Calhoun said. “Unfortunately, redundancies are a hard but necessary step to align with our new reality, maintain liquidity and position ourselves for the eventual return to growth.”
Calhoun added that the company will also “participate in a full-fledged enterprise transformation effort, evaluating every aspect of our business for opportunities to improve.”
