The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department discovered a body in Lake Piru in California, the site where actress Naya Rivera disappeared last week.
The “Glee” star is presumed to have drowned after a swimming accident on July 8. The Ventura Sheriff’s Office has not yet identified the body, but will hold a press conference Monday at 2pm on the lake.
“Happening now: A body has been found in Piru Lake this morning. Recovery is in progress. A press conference will take place at 2 pm on the lake, ”the department wrote on Twitter on Monday.
Last Wednesday, Rivera rented a boat with her 4-year-old son. After she did not return to the rental position on time, workers found the boat at the north end of the lake. Her son was later found sleeping in the boat in a life jacket, although Rivera was not there. However, her purse, ID, and life jacket were in the boat. Her son told officials that he had gone swimming with his mother, and that only he returned to the boat.
More than 100 people, including divers, finders and law enforcement officers, assisted in the search for his body, but were unsuccessful due to dangerous conditions and poor visibility in the water. Efforts were cut to about 40 people on Friday, and Sheriff Captain Eric Buschow said the search is being conducted primarily with side-scan sonar devices.
Rivera is best known for her roles in “Glee”, “Step Up: High Water” and “Devious Maids”.
