At least 27 wildfires are currently burning in the state, killing 26 people and destroying 6,100 structures, California Fire Protection (Cal Fire) said in a statement released Sunday. . About 19,000 firefighters are fighting the blaze.
CL Fire has urged residents that the “most devastating wildfires” usually occur in September and October.
It is now one of the largest wildfires in Los Angeles County history. The largest, Station Fire, set fire to 160,000 acres in 2009.
The cause of the Bobcat fire, which started on September 6, is not yet known. More than 1,700 firefighters are battling the blaze.
Above the eastern foothills of Los Angeles on Sunday, there was a blaze in Chrysantry Flat.
A photo with the tweet showed a light green forest service crew van or buggy as firefighters called it, and that part was delivered by firefighters from Mormon Lake hot shots from northern Arizona.
Sky Cornell, a spokesman for Los Angeles County Fire, told CNN on Sunday that there was a lot of pressure on Saturday to put content lines around the fire.
“They (the fire crew) knew that if they could push hard at night it would make a big difference to the fire. They were able to carry out an aggressive fire attack overnight by placing content lines in several areas,” Cornell said.
Cornell said the northern spread of the Bobcat fire was in the desert lowland flatlands, a much easier area to fight forest fires than the deep valleys of the Ep Bho mountains and the Angels National Forest, where the flames have already burned.
“But we’re never out of the woods. We never let our guards down. We’re seeing some wind today and that’s our number one concern,” he said.
Nature center closed after area burned
One hotspot that erupted was near the Devils’ Punchball Nature Center, which remained closed until further notice due to the blaze.
The Lob Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation said in a news release Sunday that the natural area and facility of the Devils’ Punchball has been burned by Bob Buck at fire.
The area is still considered a hotspot and not safe, the release said. “The feature will be closed until further notice.”
According to the release, the animals were taken out of the sanctuary earlier this week.
