Blind FBI copies of key documents in Russia probe for fear Trump will end it

The FBI reportedly kept crucial documents in its investigation of the Russia-Trump campaign, including memoranda from FBI Director James Comey about his conversations with President Donald Trump, for fear that Trump would close the investigation.

According to CNN, the FBI took several steps to protect the documents under the leadership of then-FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe after Trump fired Comey in 2017.

McCabe reportedly caused investigators to hide Comey’s notes in the agency’s software system, SENTINEL, where they could not be removed if Trump also expelled McCabe (which he ultimately did).

Additionally, FBI agents hid at least three copies of the memos and other documents in “remote locations around the Office,” in CNN’s words.
