“My colleagues and we are talking about the fact that we’re releasing our guards,” said Dennis McLaughlin, a Chicago resident.
People have left their guards down, according to Chicago health officials. And the coldest and hardest months are yet to come.

“With any lifestyle change we see the difficulty in sustaining it, it’s not sustainable,” said Dr. Mark L. Lo Femen of Cook County Health.
Loffman suggests that the best way for people to live mentally through mental illness during the winter months is to get out of trouble for community service.
“This is a volunteer community service work, we’re all doing it to take care of each other. We should feel good that we want to do more of that.”
