‘blackish’: Unaired Season 4 Episode about Trump now available on Hulu

De black-ish episode ABC originally did not want you to see is now available for viewing on Hulu.

The network hit the season 4 episode, titled “Please, Baby, Please,” in 2018. The ep features Anthony Anderson’s Dre improvising a bedtime story to his then-son Devante during a sleepless night in the Johnson household. During the story, Dre reveals many of his concerns about the state of the union one year after Donald Trump – whom he calls “the Shady King” – was elected president. Another scene finds Dre and eldest son Junior arguing over the rights of athletes to take a knee during the national anthem at football matches.

‘One of the things that has always made black-ish so special is how it investigates delinquent social problems in a way that is both entertaining and educating, ”an ABC rep said in a statement at the time. “On this episode, however, there were creative differences that we could not resolve.”

On his Instagram feed Monday, series maker Kenya Barris announced the over-face of the network, calling “Please, Baby, Please” “22 minutes of television that I was, and still am, incredibly proud of.”

He goes on to say that he asked ABC to review again so that the episode can be streamed available. ‘Recognizing the importance of this moment,’ he wrote, ‘they listened and agreed.’ (Hulu subscribers can stream the episode here.)

In November 2017, we made an episode of ‘black-ish’ titled “Please, Baby, Please.” We were one year after the election and came to the end of a year that left us, like many Americans, wrestling with the state. of our country and worried for its future. Those feelings streamed down the page, 22 minutes of television where I was, and still am, incredibly proud. “Please, Baby, Please” has not hit the season and although much has been speculated about the content, the episode has never been seen in public … until now.

I’m excited to share that “Please, Baby, Please” is now available on Hulu. After the re-release of ‘Juneteenth’ and ‘Hope’, I asked Walt Disney Television to remake to make the episode available. Recognition of the importance of this moment listened and agreed.

I can not wait for everyone to finally see the episode for themselves and, as was the case almost three years ago, we hope it inspires some need for conversation – not just about what we missed then or how it led where we are now, but talks about where we want our country to move forward, and, more importantly, how we get there together.

Many thanks to ABC Entertainment for allowing this moment. And thank you to the whole ‘black-ish’ family for never scaring hard conversations, and telling stories like this possible.
