- Phones with BlackBerry brand come back thanks to security brand Onward Mobility.
- The company’s website notes that we can expect 5G BlackBerry phones in 2021.
TCL and BlackBerry confirmed earlier this year that they have parted ways, meaning TCL would no longer launch or produce new smartphones or BlackBerry brands.
Now, it turns out that the name of BlackBerry is ready to return to the smartphone space with courtesy of not much known mobile security brand Onward Mobility. More specifically, the US market website notes that “new Blackberry 5G phones” are coming next year.
Onward Mobility says these new phones will be “extremely secure” and offer a “suite of end-to-end security solutions.” However, the company has not elaborated on these security features and solutions.
The brand’s website notes that it will work with BlackBerry and Foxconn subsidiary FIH Mobile to design and manufacture the upcoming phones. A little different is known about these new phones, though 9to5Google reports that one device will have a physical keyboard.
Onward Mobility also does not seem to have a significant track record in the space for smartphone hardware, so we definitely take a wait and see approach to this news.
