Black MLB players donate salaries for Jackie Robinson Day

Participating Major League Baseball players, a group of more than 100 Black East and current professional Baseball players, will donate their salaries to the Players Alliance, including the New York Yankees ‘Giancarlo Stanton and Loki Angeles Dodgers’ put bets.

Players Alliance Black encourages young people to play baseball and facilitates discussions about racial inequality in the game.

The Players Alliance wrote in a statement that “the color of our skin we wear every day is the same.” “We can’t change that. What we can change is the long-standing suffering and injustice by the black community. We encourage our colleagues and fans to use our platform to speak up, and to make our voices heard.”

Members of the Players Alliance will donate their salaries to the Alliance, which funds mentoring and employment programs to develop black talent.
Some MLB teams postponed their games on Wednesday and Thursday after the NBA’s Milwaukee Bucks decided not to play a playoff game against Relando Magic on Wednesday. The stand quickly spread from the NBA to a number of leagues, including the WNBA, Major League Soccer and the National Hockey League.
The cancellation came in protest of Jacob Blake’s police shooting in Canosha, Wisconsin. An officer shot a 29-year-old black man named Blake seven times at close range while Blake’s three children were watching from his car. Blake’s father told CNN’s “New Day” on Friday that his son was “fighting for his life” at a local hospital.

According to the league, Jackie Robinson Day has been an MLB tradition since 2008, when players all wear the No. 42 jersey in his honor and teams donate to social justice causes. This day is usually celebrated on April 15, the anniversary of Robinson’s MLB debut, when he became the first black player in the league.
As the league postponed the season due to the Covid-19 epidemic, Jackie Robinson Day was rescheduled in Washington for the August 28, 1963 anniversary of Gust.

CNN has reached out to the Players Alliance for additional comment.
