Cherry Hill, New Jersey (WPVI) – While holiday shoppers are settling into a new normal this year of Covid-19, some post-Thanksgiving traditions continue as planned – waiting in line for the best Black Friday deal.

“We arrived here at 4:30 pm yesterday,” said Anthony Yates of North East Philadelphia, waiting to get a PlayStation 5 outside the gamestop in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.

The sign outside the store says there are two Sony PlayStation 5 systems and six Xboxes available.

“Every game stop is like that. People started camping yesterday,” Jason Yates said.

While the epidemic shuts down large retailers for Thanksgiving Night, it doesn’t camp people ahead of Black Friday. Yates says they are doing everything they can to stay safe.

“So we’re taking precautions. We’re not going to ignore it. It’s an epidemic. We’re doing everything socially responsible, but we’re just waiting,” Jason said.

The traditional start of the holiday shopping season seems different, as the case progresses.

In Philadelphia’s Love Park, the Christmas Village opened with epidemic protocol, including half the number of vendors to control the crowd, limited people inside the outdoor food court, and social distance ambassadors to the venue.

“People are working there and telling you which way to go. There are hand sanitizer stations everywhere. Everyone keeps their distance,” said Megan Flynn of Port Richmond.

Big Btx retailers like Walmart and Best Buy-it usually seems mostly empty at the beginning of a Thanksgiving night open Saturday, but Black Friday is ready for the crowd.
