Dr. Deborah Birx, White House coronavirus response coordinator, recommends the use of face shields along with masks to protect against COVID-19 infection.
Face shields can offer more protection to the user than cloth face coatings, which are meant to prevent asymptomatic people from spreading the coronavirus to others.
“The mask protects others, to block those drops and block the contamination that occurs when you talk or sing or talk, or even breathe,” Birx said on “Fox & Friends” Thursday morning.
“What about face shields: We think it could protect people and decrease the ability to touch their eyes and spread the virus, as well as the drops that come close to them. So there are two different technologies for two different reasons. “
Dr Anthony FauciAnthony Fauci Gohmert says that he will take hydroxychloroquine for treatment with COVID-19. Pence met with doctors for a viral video containing false claims of coronavirus. Fauci says a viral video retweeted by Trump features “a group of people saying something that is not true.” PLUS, the country’s leading infectious disease doctor and a member of the White House coronavirus special force, recommended the use of protectors or glasses on Wednesday.
“If you have glasses or an eye protector, you should wear it. It is not universally recommended, but if you really want to be complete, you should probably wear it if you can.”
The mucous surfaces of the eyes, mouth, and nose are all entry points for COVID-19 infection. Since the masks only cover the mouth and nose, goggles or goggles would offer additional protection for the eyes, Fauci noted.
“You have mucosa in your nose, mucosa in your mouth, but you also have mucosa in your eye,” he added. “Theoretically, you should protect all mucous surfaces.”
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) currently only recommends the use of cloth face covers for the general public, but note that “some people may choose to wear a face shield when close sustained contact is expected with others”.
The CDC guide does not recommend the use of face shields for normal daily activities or as a substitute for cloth face covers.
If face shields are worn without a mask, the guide indicates that they should wrap around the sides of the face and extend under the chin. Otherwise, a mask should be worn with the face shield.
