One of the musical performances on the first night of the Democratic National Convention on Monday raised a few eyebrows with many viewers likening it to a comedy shot.
After a speech by Michelle Obama, actor Billy Porter closed the first night of the DNC of 2020 with a powerful protest song, a riotous remake of Buffalo Springfield’s “For What It’s Worth” that many online have compared to the comedy styles of the duo, Tim & Eric.
De Pose star was joined by writer Stephen Stills of the song on guitar and the pair performed against images with green screens of protesters from Black Lives Matter.
Although a powerful end to the evening, many Twitter users have noticed the similarity of performance to something you would expect to see from Tim & Eric, who even love a green screen.

For the uninitiated, Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim are an American comedy duo known for their distinctive and quirky style that is dark, tongue in cheek, and often surreal.
Several Twitter users who looked to the DNC could not help but point out the similarities between the performances of Porter and Tim & Eric skits.

One tweet reads: “Congratulations to Tim and Eric for securing a dnc slot.”
While another shared the clip and tweeted: “Tim and Eric commercial !!! Love it!”
Another tweet read: “I have a soft spot for both Billy Porter and Stephen Stills, and that’s probably my favorite Buffalo Springfield song, but the Tim & Eric comparison creeps up my ass. The choice between two rapists is so obscene that it’s all going to look like a parody at this point. “
Despite unintentional thinking about Tim & Eric, Porter’s performance was mentioned by many.
One person tweeted: “Apparently networking cut out before Billy Porter could sing, and it’s the most dramatic thing I’ve ever seen in my life, lol, I would expect nothing less from him.”
Talk about the performance, Sills said Variation: “Billy did such a great cover of the song and that was me [originally] with him singing about this for the DNC. But then I decided ‘Nah, it’s Billy’s record, so let’s fly with it. And also, my wifi is unreliable, that I played guitar and song with. “
Last night’s event was hosted by Desperate housewives star Eva Longoria whose expert hosting received the activist widespread praise.
Tracee Ellis Ross, Kerry Washington, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus will serve as MCs during the four nights of the convention.
