Jim Parsons opened up about the ‘intense summer’ that made him realize it was time to step away from his lead role on the beloved CBS sitcom ‘The Big Bang Theory. ‘
The 47-year-old actor played Sheldon Cooper for 12 seasons on the show before she finally decided to call it quits – a decision that brought the show to 2019. The actor said earlier that he just had the thought that he did not ‘I want to continue playing the role and realized, “That, that’s your answer.”
However, during a recent appearance on “David Tennant Does a Podcast With …,” Parsons opened up about what led him to start leaving behind Sheldon Cooper’s identity and move on to new ventures. It turns out that a particularly stressful summer in New York City gave him a moment of “clarity.”

After wrapping up in Season 11 in the summer of 2018, he moved to the Big Apple to appear in “The Boys In The Band” on Broadway. In addition, he agreed to film a movie for Intel. On the way to the commercial shooting, he noticed that his dog had “become seriously ill”.
“He just looked so bad and I was so tired and I just started crying,” he told the host, according to People. “I was like, ‘This dog will die while I’m off to work and I feel so bad.’ ‘
Unfortunately, after filming the commercial and performing on stage, he and his husband, Todd Spiewak, decided to put their dog down because of the pain the dog was in. He spent the next few days in a dark place, realizing that there was something wrong with his life, but not quite sure what it was.
To add to the stress, he slipped and broke his foot. It felt like it was the one negative thing for him, and Parsons said he had a moment of ‘clarity’ that he needed to make a big change in his life, and ‘Big Bang Theory’ was gone.
“The end result was that it was a very intense summer,” he said. “The dog died, he was 14, and Todd and I were together for 15 years at that point, so it was just the end of an era.

“I had this moment of clarity that I think you are very happy to come across in many ways, from going, ‘Don’t stay through.’ You know? ‘Use this time to look around.’ And that I did, “he added.” I was, ‘I had to make a move.’ “
Looking back on his life, he admitted that he would be 46 years old at the time of Season 12, for which he was contractually obligated to pack. He noted that his father was 52 when he died, and forced him to ask how he wanted to spend the next six years.
‘I’m not superstitious or anything like that. It was just a contextual thing, “he told Tennant.
When he returned to Los Angeles, he broke the news to ‘Big Bang Theory’ writers Chuck Lorre and Steven Molaro that he would not entertain the idea of a season 13.

Lorre stated that he considered moving the show to Sheldon, but eventually decided not to do so. Lorre found himself in that position earlier when Charlie Sheen was fired from “Two and a Half Men.” He was eventually replaced by Ashton Kutcher and the show went on for a bit longer before taking his final bow in 2015.
