About 21.6 million viewers saw coverage of Trump’s RNC addresses on nine cable and broadcast networks, down from 23.6 million viewers who saw Biden’s DNC addresses on the same nine networks.
The average may fluctuate slightly when the final numbers are released the day after, but Biden clearly ousted Trump.
The Democratic convention was also higher overall than the Republican convention when the four-day audience was higher.

The obsession with presidential ratings is well documented. He has tweeted hundreds of times about ratings, often inaccurate. He raised the issue just as he did Friday morning, when he

He did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Nielsen’s data set counts traditional TV viewership across America but largely excludes streaming and other digital forms of engagement, so the picture is incomplete.
And it’s impossible to know how many people just watched Trump, just Biden or both speeches.
So ratings are not a proxy for voter behavior – but they are significant for other reasons.
The average viewership of both 2020 conventions has dropped since 2016, while Trump’s G.O.P. Accepted the nomination and Hillary Clinton ran against it.
That year, Clinton’s speech had an average of 29.8 million viewers and Trump’s speech had an average of 32.2 million viewers. (The average of 201 tot cannot be compared with the overnight ratings for this year, but it is accurate in that direction.)
