Biden to nominate Nira Tanden as Wide House’s first budget chief

President-elect Joe Biden plans to nominate Nira Tanden, president and CEO of the Liberal Think Tank Center for American Progress, to serve as his first White House budget director, many told CBS News.

Two people familiar with the process also confirm that the president-elect is expected to appoint Cecilia Rouss to chair the Economic Advisory Council.

If confirmed, Rouge, 56, and T. Dan, 500, will be the first women to serve in her role. Tanden will be the first woman of color and the first South Asian American to lead South Fish Management FM Management and Budget. Office fees are responsible for administrative costs and policy plans – and everything from preparing a White House budget plan to writing an Arcane domestic policy and approving congressional testimony from most administrative officials.

The position needs Senate confirmation – a potentially difficult task for Tandon in the chamber to make sharply biased remarks on television and social media in recent years and for his role as Washington’s most prominent liberal thinker leader.

Biden’s aides did not respond to requests for comment.

Tandon’s nomination is due to be officially announced on Tuesday in Wilmington, Delaware, while Mr. Biden also plans to appoint former Federal Reserve Chairman Janet Yellen as the first woman to serve as Treasury Secretary and to name other economic advisers. .

Rouge previously served as a member of the Council of Economic Advisers during the Obama administration. The labor economist is currently the Dean of the School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University.

As head of the Center for American Progress, Tanden has served as the leader of the professional home of dozens of Obama-era officials, many of whom will rejoin the federal government. He is also a familiar face to TV news viewers as a frequent guest on national cable and Sunday morning programs.

And that’s the look that could contribute to a tougher go for Tandon on Capitol Hill.

“Nira Tanden, who has an endless stream of contradictory comments about what Republican senators’ votes will need, has zero chance of being confirmed.” Drew Brandevi tweeted, Spokesman for Republican Senator John Cornin of Texas on Sunday night.

Tanden previously served in the Department of Health and Human Services as the domestic policy director of the Obama-Biden presidential campaign and as a senior aide to Hillary Clinton’s 2008 presidential bid and as domestic policy adviser to then-President Bill Clinton.

Some former White House budget directors have focused on many more leading roles, including Leon Panetta, playing a role for Mr. Clinton; Joshua Bolten, who met with President George W. Bush. Served under Bush; And Mick Mulvan, who plays President Trump. They all started out as budget chiefs and later served as chiefs of staff. Others, including Jack Lew, President Obama’s second budget chief, later served as chief of staff and later joined the cabinet as Treasury secretary.

Ronald Klein, Who will serve as Mr. Biden’s first White House staffer, did not confirm Tanden’s selection Sunday night. But, amid another official announcement of plans to hire an All-Woman White House communications team, He tweeted That Biden team “has to fill 100 slots in the WH by the end of December!”
