When asked in an interview with CBS Evening News anchor Norah O’Donnell if he thought Trump should receive an intelligence briefing if someone made a request, Biden said, “I don’t think so.”
Asked what he feared would happen if Trump received the briefing, Biden said, “I wouldn’t speculate. “” I think he has – there’s no need to have intelligence briefings. What’s the point of giving him a secret briefing? What effect does it have on him except that he can say something? “
Former presidents have traditionally been allowed to make requests and receive similar intelligence briefings from their successors.
Trump’s former deputy director, Sue Gorden, wrote in an op-ed in the Washington Post after the uprising in the U.S. Capitol last month that Trump could be “unusually sensitive to bad actors with bad intentions” once he steps down.
Biden declined to say if he were a senator he would have voted to convict Trump at next week’s impeachment trial.
“Look, I ran like hell to defeat him, because I thought he was unfit to be president,” Biden said. “I saw what everyone else saw, what happened – that crew invaded the United States Congress. But now I’m not in the Senate. I’ll let the Senate make that decision.”
In a comment after the January uprising, Biden told reporters, “I’m saying right now, well, he’s not fit to serve (Trump) for a year. He’s the most incompetent president in the history of the United States of America.”
This is a breaking story and will be updated.
