Hillary Clinton praised in an interview with MSNBC on Sunday the search for Joe Biden’s vice president while slamming President Donald Trump as “a wannabe authoritarian.”
“This is such a critical election and I think he has great choices,” Clinton said of those believed to be in Biden’s last term, including Senator Kamala Harris, D-Calif., Former national security adviser Susan Rice and Michigan include Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, among others. “We are up against an authority wannabe who has already violated our country, our institutions, our rule of law … we just have to defeat Donald Trump.”
The 2016 Democratic nominee explained how she, her running mate, sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., Chose by looking for “a person who could literally be president tomorrow,” and one “I could work with” and who “could help” me win. “
Clinton also spoke about the role that sexism plays in the campaign when Biden prepares to put a woman on the ticket.
“There are still so many filters that stand between women who see public office, especially at the highest level,” she said, noting that “women are ready to serve, we have served, we are ready to serve. “
She called on everyone with a platform “to speak out for the woman and defend that (former) Vice President Biden” amid “benefits and attitudes about women seeking power.”
“Oh sir, there has apparently never been an ambitious man – at least I do not hear that word applied to a man,” she added. “That we must defend the right of women to seek and retain power.”
