It was not immediately clear who Biden’s nominee would be, but a former Obama administration official confirmed to Hill that veteran diplomat and longtime Biden ally Tony Blinkon is considered the front-runner for the position.
Blinkon is seen in Washington as someone who would be more qualified for the role, given his past tenure as No. 2 in the State Department, as well as his role as Deputy National Security Adviser on Capitol Hill and at the Obama White House.

Biden has already said he has chosen who he will nominate to serve as Treasury Secretary, although he also declined to specify who will be tapped to take on the role.
