Biden campaign does not lease aircraft amid pandemic

The coronavirus pandemic is fueling Joe Biden’s campaign.

The former vice president’s campaign team has not booked any air travel, so there is no need to lease a plane to jet across the country for political meetings, Axios reported Monday.

With many swing states limiting the size of public meetings, the Biden campaign is betting that adhering to health guidelines will pave the way for the presidency.

It also enables Biden, who will accept the Democratic presidential nomination at a voluntary convention, to contrast himself with President Trump, who will fly on Air Force One this week for campaign hangar rallies in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Arizona.

In Pennsylvania, indoor meetings are limited to 25 people and outdoor activities are not allowed more than 250 people.

Michigan limits the size of indoor meetings to 10 people and outdoor meetings to 100.

Wisconsin discourages large public meetings, but the rules differ from county to county.

TJ Ducklo, spokesman for Biden’s campaign, said that Trump, by going through major events, “gambled with American life for his own political gain.”

However, assistants said Biden could still take to the skies before November, especially if states change their guidelines.

Candidates typically leave their aircraft unveiled over the summer as the campaigns hit the final stages of the race.
