According to a press release, the New Shepard will fly 12 commercial payloads into space and back, demonstrating a lunar landing sensor that will test technologies for future missions to the moon in support of NASA’s Artemis program.

“The experiment examines how these techniques (sensors, computers and algorithms) work together to determine the location and speed of a spacecraft as it approaches the moon, allowing a vehicle to land autonomously on the lunar surface within 100 meters of a given point. Enables for. ” Said Blue Origin. “The technologies could allow future missions, both crew and robotic – to target landing sites that were not possible during the Apollo mission, such as the diverse terrain near flying.”

Blue Origin noted that achieving high-accuracy landings could also enable long-term lunar exploration and future Mars missions.
