‘Better Call Saul’ co-creator Peter Gould calls the relationship between Kim and Jimmy ‘Volatile’

Better separate Saul fans are worried about Kim Wexler (Rhea Seehorn), and they are not the only ones. The show’s co-maker Peter Gould says he’s worried ‘about her character because she seems to be making choices that lead her down a dangerous path. But is Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk) to blame for Kim’s transformation? Although it seems that the morally upright Kim has been lost by Slippin ‘Jimmy, the real situation can be a bit more complicated.

Gould spoke with Anthony D’Alessandro during Deadline’s Contenders Television: The nominees’ virtual event on August 16. After being asked if Kim had a “death”, Gould waited.

“It’s an interesting situation, because the show is a prequel to Breaking bad and somehow a sequel on Breaking bad, ”He said before pointing out that we already know what’s going on with key characters such as Jimmy / Saul, Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito), and Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks). But Kim does not appear in Breaking bad, making their ultimate fate a mystery.

“In a strange way, as the show went on, Kim became the character we’re most about,” Gould said.

“It’s a question of where her head is,” he admitted. “Is she going on a bad job?”

When Kim was introduced in Better separate Saul Season 1, she was a polished professional who claimed the ranks at Hamlin, Hamlin & McGill. Her strict ethics contrasted with Jimmy’s more flexible approach to the law. But over five seasons, because she’s more involved with Jimmy – the two were even married last season – her character has become more complicated. Is that all thanks to Jimmy’s bad influence? Not necessarily, according to Gould.

‘It’s a very interesting relationship. On the surface you would say he damaged them. But that’s not all that’s happening, ‘he said. He then compared Jimmy and Kim to two elements that are inert to themselves but become “volatile” when they come together.

“She’s always moving in the direction of cutting corners,” Gould continued. “I think Kim has become disillusioned with the practice of the law, as she has known it”

Kim may realize that they do not always “have to play by the rules of the system,” he added. ‘We’ll see where that leads them. I also worry a little about them. ”

Viewers need to get answers about what’s going on with Kim (and why she’s not in it Breaking bad) in the sixth and final season of Better separate Saul. But finding out that ending her story has been a challenge, Gould told the Hollywood Reporter.

“It’s the devil’s owner’s cube, because we know where these characters are and we kind of know where some of them end up,” he said. “There are characters like Kim Wexler, whose lots are wide open. And then there are characters like Jimmy McGill, we know very specifically what he did there a few years back. ”

Whatever happens, it changes the way people look Breaking bad.

‘I think you’re ready by now Better separate Saul, you will see Breaking bad in a very different light, ”Gould said.
