BET Awards: DaBaby Channels George Floyd for his performance in ‘Rockstar’

DaBaby paid tribute to George Floyd and channeled national protests against police brutality in response to his death with his hit “Rockstar” at the BET 2020 Awards. The song first hit number one on the list of the 100 Best Songs in RS in May.

DaBaby launched his performance on the floor, with the knee of a white police office sitting on his neck. The police reenactment of the traumatic video of Floyd’s suffocation was accompanied by a verse about DaBaby’s own encounters with police brutality and racial profiling that appeared in the song’s “Black Lives Matter Remix”.

After moving to a heavenly array of clouds, the clip continued with DaBaby surrounded by protesters and acting in front of a burning police car. Roddy Ricch joined her verse, standing on top of the police car.

“Rockstar” appears on DaBaby’s third studio album Blame it on the baby, which was released in April. The album debuted at number one on the RS Top 200 album chart.
