One of Senator Bernie Sanders’ closest campaign aides used a stomach-churning metaphor to describe the choice between voting for President Donald Trump and presumptive Democratic candidate Joe Biden.

Speaking to The Atlantic, Nina Turner, co-chair of the failed Sanders presidential campaign, explained why the decision between Trump and Biden is so disappointing to some progressive Democrats.

“It’s like saying to someone, ‘You have a bowl of shit in front of you, and all you have to do is eat half instead of everything.’ It’s still s —” Turner said.

The Atlantic went on to use his date as one of multiple reasons Trump could ultimately win reelection despite being behind in recent polls.

Business Insider contacted Senator Sanders’ office and Biden’s campaign to comment on Turner’s statement, but did not immediately receive a response, either. It is unclear if Turner is still working for Sanders in another capacity, now that he has retired from the race.

The 2020 Democratic presidential primaries started as a field of nearly 30 candidates, and in March they narrowed to a contest between Biden, a centrist, and Sanders, a progressive.

Sanders pulled out of the race and backed Biden in early April, after devastating losses in states like South Carolina, Michigan and Florida.

Biden is now the alleged Democratic candidate, and will face Trump in November.

However, since leaving the race, Sanders has worked with Biden on policy issues. The two men elected representatives who participated in weeks of “Unity Working Group” negotiations, the results of which were published earlier this month.

The recommendations show that Sanders’ representatives were able to get the Biden team to move more to the left on issues like healthcare, criminal justice, climate change, economics, education and immigration, according to The New York Times.
