Berks travels to Delaware vacation property with family after holiday reunion warning

The Covidavirus Response of the White House, when the Covid-19 case came to light a week before the Thanksgiving holiday, Dr. Deborah Berks warned Americans to limit the celebration of “the people of your immediate home.”

For many Americans it was difficult to follow that guidance, including Birks himself.

On the second day of Thanksgiving, she toured a vacation property on Fenwick Island in Delaware. She had three pay generations of her family of two houses with her. Berks, her husband Page Refe, a daughter, son-in-law and two young grandchildren were present.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has told Americans not to travel during the holidays and discourages internal activity involving various household members. “People who do not currently live in your accommodation unit, such as college college students who are returning home from school for the holidays, should be considered part of a different home.”

Even in Berks’ daily life, there are challenges in meeting those standards. She and her husband have a home in Washington, Washington. She also owns a home in nearby Potomac, Maryland, where her elderly parents, and their daughter and family live, and where Berks visits from time to time. In addition, the children’s other grandmother, who is 77, also visits Potomac’s home regularly and returns to her 92-year-old husband near Baltimore.

Berks ’own experiences underline the difficulty and difficulty of trying to navigate epidemic risks while balancing jobs, family and health, especially among essential workers like him.

Yet some of BIRX’s allies with public health say it should be kept at a high level given the government’s response to the epidemic across the country and its important role in the current rise in the number of Kovid-1 deaths across the country.

According to a person familiar with the Biden team’s deliberations and an official with the Trump administration’s Coronavirus Task Force, the president-elect has expressed a desire to play a significant role on the White House’s Coronavirus Task Force when Biden is inaugurated next month. Neither were authorized to discuss internal discussions in public and the two spoke on condition of anonymity.

“For me, this disqualifies him from any future government health status,” said Dr. Angela Rasmussen, a virologist at the Georgetown Center for Global Health Sciences and Security. “Sending someone to the American people in public health is a terrible message.”

After the Associated Press raised questions about her Thanksgiving weekend trip, Birks admitted in a statement that she had moved into her Delaware estate. She refused to be interviewed.

She insisted that the purpose of the approximately 0-hour visit was for the winter transaction of the property before a potential sale – something she says she did not have time to do due to her busy schedule.

“I did not go to Delaware to celebrate Thanksgiving,” Birks said in a statement, adding that his family shared a meal together while in Delaware.

Birks said each of his Delaware trips are to his “immediate home,” although he acknowledged they live in two separate homes. He initially called Potomac Home a “3rd generation home (formerly 4th generation)”. White House officials later said it was a four-generation home, a distinction that included Burks as part of the home.

Birks ’job makes him an“ essential worker ”by federal guidelines, in a situation that requires extensive travel for consultation with state and local officials about the epidemic response. She said they have been driving 25,000 miles in 25 states, often in coronavirus hot spots. There are also office fees at the BRICS White House, where numerous COVID-19 infections have come out.

Through it all, he said he has protected himself and his family by wearing a mask and undergoing regular testing.

Birks did not say how long he had been apart before visiting the family. Medical experts say people who have recently been infected do not test positive. They say wearing a mask has limited effectiveness in an environment like the White House, where some others use it.

Margaret Flynn, another grandmother of children, comes to Potomac to provide childcare at home, then returns to her husband, who has health problems. Birks said he has not seen another grandmother since the onset of the epidemic and does not know how often he visits the Potomac home.

Fly confirmed that he had not spoken to Burks in months. Fly refused to say how often to visit the house to take care of the grandchildren.

From the podium at the White House, Birks talks about how he comes from a multi-generational family, including his parents and daughter’s grandson, all living under the same roof. Many saw this as a family affair.

In early April, she said she understood the sacrifices she had made and explained that she could not go to her Potomac home when one of her grandchildren had a high fever.

“I didn’t go there,” he said, standing next to President Donald Trump. “You can’t take that kind of risk.”

Since then she has started visiting again at home.

Numerous elected officials, including leading Democrats, have been forced to admit that they have not complied with their strict warnings about the dangers of spreading the virus.

Birks has a much higher power position when it comes to epidemics. Many Americans believe he and the government’s top infectious disease specialist, Dr. Rely on the advice given by Anthony Fauci.

Thalin Flynn, whose brother is married to Birks ‘daughter, who lives in the Pot Bir Mack House, said she brought up information about Berks’ situation out of concern for her own parents, and accepted a family dispute over the matter.

“She aggressively violated her own guidance,” Flan said of Burks.

Richard Flynn, his father, confirmed the details of Berks’ Thanksgiving holiday gathering and visit to the Potomac home, but said he had faith in the doctor and believed she was doing exactly what she was told. He said Birks’ home visit is only a few weekends away.

Richard Flynn said in a recent interview, “Dr. Birks is very sincere and from all I can see is a very good doctor and scientist.”

Medical experts say public health officials such as Berks need to be exemplified, including personal behaviors that go beyond condemnation.

A global health expert from Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical, Dr. “We need leadership to set an example, especially in terms of the things they ask the average American to do that they are far less privileged than they are,” Abrar Karan said. Berks came to the White House coronavirus task force with a sterling reputation. A public servant after the Reagan administration, Birks visited the U.S. Has served as an Army Physician and as a globally recognized AIDS researcher. He was removed with the help of a task force in late February as the coordinator of US Global AIDS.

However, Berks faced criticism from public health experts and Democratic lawmakers for not speaking out strongly against Trump while contradicting the advice of medical advisers and scientists on fighting the virus.

While she has been in the good graces of Trump for a much longer time than Fawcett, who has repeatedly opposed Trump, the president also fired Berks at the end of the summer.

Kathleen Flynn said she pleaded with her brother and sister-in-law not to let her mother be a babysitter, arguing that she had endangered her mother by spending too much time in homes other than hers, while also endangering Burks’ elderly parents. . . Flynn, who said she has a long-standing strained relationship with her brother, is currently not on terms to speak with him and has never met Burks.
Flynn said his mother waited about a week after Burkes’ Thanksgiving trip before returning to Potomac to provide childcare assistance.

Lawrence Gostin, a public health expert at Georgetown University Law School who has known Berks professionally for years, said he is confident that Berks took all necessary precautions to reduce the risks in his Thanksgiving trip. However, she acknowledged that their numbers were not enough to defeat Americans in their efforts to reduce the number of deaths and injuries caused by the virus.

“It’s incredibly important for people to model behavior for coronavirus leaders that they suggest to people.” Said Gostin. “We lose faith in our public health officials if they say these are the rules but they don’t apply to me.”
