The Bengals returned to the training ground on Sunday. They saw the return of John Ross after he left to take care of his son who had tested positive for COVID-19. The beat writers and other media members also came close enough to get more detailed footage of some drills. Here’s the best that Twitter had to offer for Sunday practice.
Ross is back in town
After his understandable absence from practice, Ross returned and sounded as confident about 2020 as ever. It’s a make or break this season for Ross in Cincinnati, and it’s great to see him back in the fold to get time with Joe Burrow throwing him the ball.
He also talks to the media about not regretting the practice and his confidence level.
John Ross is back here with the #Bengals. Has helmets and pads and seems to be ready to join the team completely again after returning home to help with the care of his family that had to do with COVID.

I will remain a big fan of Ross. I even think he needs to be extended. Give burrow weapons and a deep threat to stretch the defense. https://t.co/VfZgVdHRNp

I am always so impressed by the perspective of John Ross who treats this situation with his family with incredible grace and understanding of priorities. Kudos to him, great to hear that his son is doing better and everything is fine on his home front.

Bengals WR John Ross went home to see his son: “There was no chance I would stay. With all due respect, I am a father.”

John Ross said he threw with Joe Burrow three or four times. Joe’s throw coach, Jordan Palmer, worked with the receivers of TJ Houshmandzadeh.

Tee Higgins en Auden Tate have strong Sunday
Tate has had one of the best camps of any Bengal so far this entire season. He has been one of Burrow’s most common targets, and seems to have an unbelievable catch almost every day.
Higgins is returning from a minor injury, and this is the first time he has returned to team practice. He also talks about the advice he gets from AJ Green and hopes along with another famous no. 85 to retire.
Tee Higgins joins team drills today. He was limited in previous exercises with a hamstring injury. #Bengals

Let’s go, Tea !! I can not wait to see him in the stream of the season. Maybe the Bengals can create a jumbo WR package? AJ + Tee + Auden. https://t.co/i3Kq0ixWX8

It looks like Ross is out of the team. Higgins had a TD in Burrow’s red zone on the back line, but he escaped

Tea Higgins gives Auden Tate some praise. “He grabs everything”
Lindsay Patterson @LndsPatterson August 23, 2020
Tee Higgins on Auden Tate: “Man is a dog. I always knew it since he was at Florida State … He finds everything.”

Tee Higgins on Joe Burrow’s ball: The first time he hit a ball, it was a ball. It shocked me.
– Ben Baby (@Ben_Baby) August 23, 2020
Tee Higgins said he learned route by route, releasing techniques from AJ Green, which he modeled his game after.

Jonah Williams shows why there is so much hype around him
Cincinnati assumed Williams had a left tackle last year. Unfortunately, he missed the entire season due to an injury. Now that he’s back, he’s shown why the coaches were so excited to draft him.
Jonah Williams wins reps against Carl Lawson, Sam Hubbard. Mike Jordan wins two reps against Mike Daniels, who is not happy.

Great rep.
Not a Bengals fan, but if Bengals can keep Burrow safe and give him the right time to adapt in the league, I see a bright future for the team.
Going to be interesting to watch!

Apparently they only beat him inside of the clips we saw. Test its strength and length

Defense bites back
Under the leadership of Carlos Dunlap, Geno Atkins and DJ Reader, the defense had a solid training day, as both sides of the ball seemed to be doing their best to keep the other. We came close to seeing images of the defensive line working against the offensive line, and Dunlap made the plays of the day.
96 staff have made noise in camp and has given Jonah problems with length, technique and inside counters. Do not match the man with a TE tho tbh. https://t.co/wpmeEZiFSr

Carlos Dunlap has a day. He ran right through Jonah Williams and “Burde” Joe Burrow. He also stopped Joe Mixon in the backfield a few games beforehand. #Bengals

Carlos Dunlap just tipped a pass thrown by Joe Burrow and it was intercepted by CB Winston Ross #Bengals

Joe Burrow throws second int from #Bengals practice as just tipped by Carlos Dunlap and grabbed by Winston Rose … LeShaun Sims has other int earlier in the red zone drill

Mackensie Alexander turned on John Ross in a 1v1 drill. An imperfection forced
