The rookies are expected to perform at NFL training camps starting this week, and that includes first-overall pick and Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow.
A couple more Bengals talked about Burrow this past week before the NFL tries to do business as usual during a pandemic. Trey Hopkins appeared on the Bengals Booth podcast and shared his impressions of Burrow during the virtual offseason.
“Very impressive,” said Hopkins. “He has a great understanding of offense in a very, very short time … He was the No. 1 overall pick in the draft, you really don’t skate.” There’s a lot of excitement in the locker room just to see what he has and see how it translates into the NFL. I am encouraged by what I have seen so far at Zoom meetings. ”
Hopkins has been in Cincinnati longer than any offensive lineman on the team, whether starting or not. He was here for most of Andy Dalton’s tenure at the center and has become a leader in the locker room. Your praise is not something to ignore.
While Hopkins has been close to the Bengals since 2014, DJ Reader has yet to move to Cincinnati after agreeing on the longest contract for a nose tackle in free agency in March. But Reader saw what Burrow was capable of when LSU defeated Clemson, Reader’s varsity team, at the National College Football Playoff Championship. Reader recently appeared on Good Morning Football and thanked the Burrow character.
“What I like most about him, especially on social media, is that he stands up for what he believes in,” Reader said. “He cares about a lot of people, you can ask what he’s doing and he cares … from what I’ve seen so far, he behaves the right way, so I’m excited to get there and watch him grow, be a part of his growth and I hope I can push it and improve it a little bit. “
