Conservative commentator Ben Shapiro predicted Tuesday that it is only a matter of time before far-left protesters and anarchists who have smashed and destroyed statues across the United States come to the famous Mount Rushmore.
“These are statues, not just limited to Confederate monuments … [or] to people in history who have very rough pasts … “explained the presenter of” The Ben Shapiro Show “.” We are five seconds from the ‘blow up Mount Rushmore’ movement. “
Shapiro voiced his concern on Twitter on Monday, prompting a strong response from South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem on Tuesday.
“I’m not looking out,” Noem wrote on Twitter after Shapiro postulated that the chiseled faces of Presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln could be the next target for the “awakening of the historic revisionist priesthood.”
“Mount Rushmore features a group of people who have been canceled,” Shapiro explained. “George Washington has had his statues knocked down and so has Thomas Jefferson. Abraham Lincoln has been canceled … and now Teddy Roosevelt is being canceled.”
