DJ iMarkKeyz, who famously remixed Cardi B’s coronavirus back in March, has taken over Ben Shapiro’s lyrical recitation of ‘WAP,’ the NSFW (or even WFH) track by Cardi and Megan Thee Stallion, who fell on Friday (Aug 7).
The Brooklyn-born and bred iMarkKeyz, whose real name is Brandon Davidson, is a local DJ and producer known for remixing videos and memes. “The Ben Shapiro Show” airs weekly on nearly 200 radio stations in nine of the top 10 brands and on DailyWire.com. Expressing what can only be described as disgust at the raunchy lyrics of the song, the conservative host went on to read the lyrics aloud, censoring swear words and the title of the song.
Tweeted by Jason Cambell and later Jordan Uhl, it was shared more than 10,000 times within 6 hours.
Variation reached out to iMarKkeyz to ask how the remix came about. “The internet kept marking me in the actual video and telling me to remix it, adding Ben Shapiro’s song to Cardi B’s ‘WAP’ beat,” he says. ‘It was fast, that’s what I normally do. It’s a short time I have everything ready. ”
Indeed, the whole process of remixing the “WAP” record took him a total of 30 minutes.
Speaking about the creative process, he says “It was funny when I saw the actual video. I did not know he was digging into the politics of the actual song, I thought it loved it. After I read the whole “After watching the video, I saw that he is not. He’s against the actual song, so I’ve added my own little twist to make it look like he likes it.
So far, the reaction to the remix has been positive. He adds: ‘She laughed and enjoyed it. Some antagonized his claim and said he did not have to worry about how the song should be perceived or whatever the case may be. “
When the DJ’s Coronavirus remix went viral, he revealed plans to donate royalties from the consumer to help fight the coronavirus. No word yet on whether “SHAP” will follow a similar course.
