Baylor has been postponed after failing to meet the cancellation threshold of the Big 12 Conference Covid-19 game. The teams have agreed to honor their planned “home and home” games and will explore future scheduled opportunities.
“The loss of this sport is a devastating blow, but in the interest of the health and safety of our student-athletes, we believe we have made the necessary decision,” said Mack B., director of athletics.
The Baylor-Houston game isn’t the only cancellation game this weekend. Florida Atlantic University and Georgia Southern University, Georgia’s Statesborough are scheduled to go kick-off at 3:30 a.m. Saturday. The FAU Athletic Department says that after Thursday’s Covid-19 test results, the Owls will not be able to play.
For the University of Houston, the Covid-19 is the third game postponed in several weeks due to issues. The team’s scheduled season opener against the Rice Owl was postponed on September 3 after Rice pushed back the start of its football season. The opener of the American Athletic Conference Conference against the Memphis Tigers in Hamston on September 18 was postponed after 19 positive covid cases in the Memphis football team.
Houston is now hopeful of playing its first game of the season against the University of North Texas on September 26th.
“Baylor contacted us on Friday afternoon and decided that Saturday’s game could not be played due to covid-related issues,” said Chris Pazman, Houston’s vice president of athletics.
“We are extremely disappointed for our student-athletes, coaches and staff. They have consistently done the right thing and worked tirelessly to prepare for the game.
